All About Us
After the suicide of three young male friends Matt felt a call to action. Tuff 2 Talk CIC was set up in the memory of these young men who were part of a local boxing club and so called “TUFF GUYS”. Men are less likely to access psychological therapies than women: only 36% of referrals to NHS talking therapies are for men and are even less likely to talk to family, friends and colleagues about their wellbeing. This needs to change.
The key aim of Tuff 2 Talk CIC is to change the face of men’s mental health by demonstrating to young men that “its tuff 2 talk, but it’s good to talk”. Using relatable and tangible examples of real tuff guys who people would assume either, do not and could not suffer with mental health disorders and if they did certainly wouldn’t talk freely and publicly about them.
We intend to encourage those less confident to come forward and seek access to conventional therapies (via signposting to local services) or quite simply open up to those within their inner circle. This men’s mental health advocacy through social media presence, workshops, presentations and social gatherings and collaboration with existing local mental health and wellbeing services.
